Job Description
The United Nations Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO) is offering a Political Affairs Internship within the South and Southeast Asia Team, Asia and the Pacific Division at the UN Headquarters, New York.
This internship provides hands-on experience in research, analysis, and peacebuilding operations related to South and Southeast Asia.
The internship can be conducted remotely or in person and is unpaid.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on South and Southeast Asian peace and security issues.
- Monitor and analyze media reports and current events.
- Draft thematic papers, background notes, and correspondence.
- Attend and take minutes at conferences and meetings.
- Support project management and data collection.
- Assist in organizing team meetings and events.
- Provide general administrative and analytical support to staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria at the time of application:
- Enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (Master’s, second university degree, or PhD), OR
- Enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree program.
- A field of study related to international relations, political science, or social sciences is preferred.
Skills and Competencies

- Communication: Clear and effective oral and written communication; active listening and openness to feedback.
- Teamwork: Collaborative spirit; able to work effectively in multicultural environments.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Knowledge of French or another UN language is an asset.
