Job Description

GIZ Nigeria is seeking a highly experienced Technical Advisor to support the ECOWAS – African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) project.

The role involves providing technical guidance to ECOWAS institutions, overseeing trade facilitation activities, coordinating with international partners, supporting implementation measures across Member States, and ensuring that policies align with regional and continental trade objectives.

The advisor will also manage project components, oversee communication and visibility processes, ensure effective budget monitoring, and support capacity-building interventions across the ECOWAS region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation for the trade facilitation/trade in services component.
  • Provide advisory support to ECOWAS Commission directorates and relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with international partners including WCO, ITC, and UNCTAD.
  • Oversee component activities and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Represent the project in meetings with partners, donors, and technical bodies.
  • Manage communication, visibility, and reporting tasks for the component.
  • Oversee budget planning and monitoring with relevant departments.
  • Manage subcontractors, consultants, and activity implementation in collaboration with the Head of Programme.

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in International Trade, Law, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years experience in international trade or regional economic integration within Africa.
  • Experience working with ECOWAS Commission and Member States.
  • Mandatory experience implementing EU-funded projects.
  • Experience coordinating diverse stakeholders including governments, NGOs, youth/women groups, and private-sector actors.
  • Proven experience in interagency coordination across multiple countries.
