Job Description

The WBG Pioneer Internship Programme provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with a high-impact learning experience through practical involvement in global development initiatives.

The Environmental and Social (E&S) Data Analytics and Portfolio Support Intern will work with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Environmental & Social team to strengthen portfolio monitoring, environmental and social risk analysis, documentation management, and data-driven reporting across investment projects in Nigeria, Central Africa, and Southern Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental & Social Due Diligence

  • Support environmental and social screening of investment transactions in line with IFC Performance Standards
  • Review Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS), and related client documentation
  • Compile due diligence information for internal systems, including ESG360 and ESGDocs

Portfolio Monitoring & Supervision

  • Track Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) implementation and update project status in ESG360 and the Disclosure Portal
  • Support the review of Annual Monitoring Reports (AMRs)
  • Assist Environmental and Social Specialists with supervision missions through document reviews and monitoring of key environmental and social issues
  • Maintain organized supervision records within ESG360 and iPortal

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly environmental and social performance reports
  • Analyze portfolio trends to identify emerging environmental and social risks
  • Generate analytical reports that support informed decision-making

Knowledge Management

  • Organize and maintain environmental and social documentation repositories
  • Document lessons learned from supervision activities to improve knowledge sharing across the team

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences, International Development, or a related discipline
  • Current enrollment in, or final year of, a Master’s degree programme
  • At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated interest in international development and the World Bank Group’s mission
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and collaborative environments
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in English (French language skills are an added advantage)
