Job Description

The Accounts Officer (Payments & Accounts Receivable Officer) is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely posting of student payments, reconciliation of payment channels, validation of financial data across university systems, and maintenance of clean receivable records.

The role requires strong analytical ability, excellent attention to detail, and competence in managing high-volume financial transactions in a fast-growing educational technology environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Timely posting of student payments across multiple channels (bank transfer, Paystack, card, POS, USSD).
  • Reconciliation of payment gateways, bank statements, SIS, and Zoho.
  • Mapping and validating payments to the correct student accounts, cohorts, and programs.
  • Detecting and resolving misposted, duplicate, unmatched, or missing payments.
  • Maintaining and updating student receivable balances and ledgers.
  • Managing instalment plans and tracking compliance.
  • Preparing ageing reports and supporting financial decision-making.
  • Cleaning and validating datasets for reconciliation and revenue processes.
  • Investigating settlement variances and escalating issues when necessary.
  • Supporting audits through proper documentation and reporting.
  • Responding to student inquiries on fees, instalments, and outstanding balances.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal financial policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborating with Product, Data, and Admissions teams to improve data accuracy.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • BSc in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related fields.
  • 2–4 years of experience in finance operations, accounts receivable, banking operations, or audit.
  • Working knowledge of Nigerian payment systems (Paystack, Remita, transfers, cards).
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (intermediate level).
  • Experience with Zoho Books, Paystack dashboards, SIS platforms (advantageous).
  • Strong accounting knowledge (double entry, reconciliations, revenue recognition).
  • High attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets (10,000+ students).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies and recommend corrective measures.
