Job Description
Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Finance Officer to join its Kaduna office.
The Finance Officer will support the finance team by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, managing petty cash, reconciling ledgers, and ensuring compliance with the organization’s financial procedures. The role also involves liaising with stakeholders, project managers, and auditors to ensure transparency and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Work (40%)
- Prepare monthly financial reports including bank reconciliation, fixed asset updates, and aged ledger balances.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of all ledgers and sub-ledgers.
- Calculate and request monthly cash needs while minimizing excess balances.
- Process payments for meetings, trainings, workshops, and consultants.
- Ensure compliance with MC financial policies and Nigerian statutory regulations (WHT, PAYE, tax filing).
- Safeguard financial resources and advise project managers on financial matters.
Supplier Invoices (25%)
- Review and process supplier/vendor invoices.
- Ensure proper authorization, coding, and posting of procurement-related payments.
- Prepare cash, cheque, and bank transfer payments.
Operations Work (25%)
- Issue and reconcile travel/activity advances.
- Maintain proper filing and archiving of financial records.
- Ensure timely submission of staff timesheets.
Petty Cash (10%)
- Manage the petty cash system, records, and reconciliations.
- Post petty cash vouchers into the general ledger.
- Ensure safe custody of cash and timely deposits.
Qualifications & Requirements
- HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a finance team (with at least 1 year as Accounts Officer)
- Strong knowledge of NGO donor financial reporting requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other computer applications
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Experience working with INGOs
- Membership of a recognized accounting professional body
- Familiarity with accounting software
- Trustworthiness, stress tolerance, and sound decision-making skills
