Job Description
The Head of Credit Risk Management / Chief Credit Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing credit risk strategies that safeguard the bank’s assets while supporting business growth. This role oversees credit approvals, portfolio monitoring, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Financial Performance
- Ensure NPL ratios remain within acceptable thresholds.
- Review and approve credit requests in line with CBN guidelines and Ecobank’s credit policy.
- Assess new product papers and provide risk input.
- Review obligor risk ratings using Moody’s Credit Lens model.
- Develop Risk Assets Acceptance Criteria (RAAC) to balance growth and asset quality.
Customer Excellence
- Join client calls and visitations with the Relationship Management team.
- Ensure timely turnaround of credit approval processes.
- Mentor and train credit analysts and relationship managers.
Leadership & People Management
- Build strong collaboration with business managers.
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching for credit officers.
Process, Control & Operational Performance
- Review credit procedures and recommend improvements.
- Conduct portfolio reviews (asset quality, concentration, collateral adequacy).
- Ensure compliance with Ecobank Group credit policy and CBN guidelines.
- Balance customer relations with the bank’s risk management needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc, HND, or equivalent).
- Strong expertise in credit risk management, banking operations, and portfolio strategy.
- Proven experience in leadership, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to analyze political and socio-economic trends and translate insights into portfolio strategy.
- Skilled in credit portfolio reviews, scenario analysis, and stress testing.
