Job Description
The Head, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s HSE management systems. The role involves ensuring zero harm to personnel, protection of assets, and safeguarding the environment. The successful candidate will drive a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and work with management to continuously improve workplace safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise senior management on HSE strategies and implications of corporate decisions.
- Implement, review, and audit HSE systems to align with corporate guidelines and legislation.
- Provide technical support and training on safety-related matters.
- Oversee safety risk assessments and remediation plans.
- Lead the development of safety documentation for projects and tenders.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and waste management regulations.
- Coordinate company-wide health surveillance programs in collaboration with HR.
- Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions.
- Manage incident/accident investigations and response strategies.
- Promote continuous improvement in safety standards, systems, and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced/professional HSE certifications required).
- Membership in IOSH or equivalent professional safety body.
- Competency certifications such as Lead Auditor OHSAS 18001.
- Minimum of 12 years HSE experience, with at least 4 years in a hydrocarbon (oil & gas) environment.
- Strong experience in budget management and resource allocation.
- Proven leadership skills in managing multi-location teams within the downstream oil & gas sector.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety laws, risk assessments, and compliance standards.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and motivational skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for preparing and presenting safety reports.
