Job Description
The Omituntun Initiative in Diaspora (OID) invites ambitious students and young thinkers to participate in the Seyi Makinde Annual Essay Competition 2025. The competition focuses on innovation, sustainability, leadership, and civic engagement, in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision for youth empowerment and inclusive development in Oyo State.
Essay Topics (Choose ONE)
- Redefining the Future: The Role of Youth in Advancing Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation for Oyo State’s Development.
- Reimagining Agriculture in Oyo State: Holistic Approaches to Advancing Climate-Smart Farming, Promoting Food Security, and Driving Progress Toward the SDGs.
- From State to Nation to Globe: Catalysing a Sustainable Future through Visionary Leadership, Youth Innovation, and Civic Engagement.
- Greening the Economy: Mobilising Community Action and Clean Energy Solutions for Environmental Sustainability in Oyo State.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be a resident or indigene of Oyo State
- Must be a student of any recognised institution in Nigeria
- Age range: 18 – 35 years
Submission Guidelines
- Essays must be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx)
- Language: English
- Word count: 1,000 – 1,500 words (excluding references)
- Font: Times New Roman, Size 12
- Line spacing: Double-spaced
- Include full name, phone number, and email address
- Attach valid proof of student status and Oyo State residency
- Only one essay submission per participant is allowed
- Plagiarism or AI-generated content is strictly prohibited

- 1st Prize: ₦1,000,000
- 2nd Prize: ₦500,000
- 3rd Prize: ₦250,000

Judging Criteria
Essays will be evaluated based on:
- Originality, creativity, and structure
- Depth of research and understanding of the topic
- Use of real-life examples, especially projects in Oyo State
- Clarity, precision, and relevance of arguments
