Job Description

Reporting to the Principal Auditor, Information Systems Audit, the IS Auditor will provide independent assurance and advisory services on governance, security, and effectiveness of ICT systems across ECOWAS institutions and agencies.

 

The role involves assessing ICT controls, cybersecurity frameworks, and compliance with regional and international standards while strengthening IT risk management and accountability within the ECOWAS system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute ICT audits in line with ISACA, INTOSAI, and AFROSAI-E standards.
  • Review IT General Controls (ITGCs), application controls, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and system changes.
  • Evaluate compliance with ISO 27001, COBIT, ITIL, and data protection regulations.
  • Audit enterprise systems such as ERP (SAP, Oracle), financial systems, and HRIS platforms.
  • Assess risks related to cloud adoption, AI, disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
  • Participate in audits of system acquisition, vendor selection, and deployment.
  • Develop high-quality reports with findings, risk ratings, and recommendations.
  • Monitor the implementation of previous audit recommendations.
  • Provide training on IT audit techniques and computerized auditing tools.
  • Review Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) plans.
  • Audit third-party and cloud service providers for compliance and risk exposure.
  • Support digital transformation and e-government audits.
  • Advise on ethical IT usage, including data privacy and algorithmic fairness.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) – Required
  • Additional certifications such as CRISC, CGEIT, CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor are an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in IT systems audit, cybersecurity, or digital transformation.
  • Hands-on experience with ITGCs, application control audits, and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, ECOWAS Data Protection Act, COBIT, ISO/IEC 27001, NIST.
  • Proficiency with audit management tools (e.g., TeamMate+).
  • Strong background in ERM (Enterprise Risk Management), governance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience auditing cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and vendor IT environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability with proven experience drafting clear audit reports.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with finance, legal, IT, and procurement.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving digital risks and technologies.
  • Cultural and political sensitivity when working across ECOWAS member states.
