Job Description
The Tax & Audit Officer will monitor tax planning, compliance, and audit activities within the organization. The role includes ensuring statutory compliance, coordinating audits, managing tax risks, and advising management on strategies that enhance financial efficiency and accountability.
Key Duties
Tax Management
- Prepare and document all tax returns (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT, etc.) accurately and efficiently.
- Develop tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities within legal frameworks.
- Oversee tax legislation changes and assess their impact on operations.
- Maintain proper documentation of all tax-related transactions.
- Liaise with tax authorities and consultants to resolve tax issues.
Audit Roles
- Manage internal and external audit processes.
- Work with external auditors to ensure timely and efficient statutory audits.
- Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements.
- Review audit findings and implement corrective measures.
- Present audit reports to senior management.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to local and international financial guidelines.
- Identify financial risks and recommend mitigating strategies.
- Stay up to date on industry and regulatory developments.
Qualifications & Requirements
- First degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, or ICAN (mandatory).
- 2–4 years’ experience in tax and audit.
- Previous experience in the oil & gas or manufacturing sector is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and audit procedures.
- Proficiency in ERP and accounting software (SAP, Sage, QuickBooks).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- High integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
