Job Description
The Legal Counsel will support the Senior Legal Counsel in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial, procurement, and operational contracts for Lafarge Africa Plc and its subsidiaries. The role involves providing legal guidance across various teams including Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Industrial, Project Management, and Logistics while ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and effective contract administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize commercial and procurement contracts (e.g., MSAs, EPC Contracts, PPAs).
- Develop and update standard contract templates, policies, and documentation procedures.
- Ensure alignment of all contract terms with company policies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and advise executives on legal implications, contract strategy, and compliance.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the business.
- Manage contract documentation processes, including the Contract Master Data Sheet and Document Management System.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and support decision-making across internal teams.
- Provide practical legal support to business units and ensure integrity and efficiency in contract operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years post-call experience, with at least 3 years in a top-tier commercial law firm.
- Strong experience in commercial drafting and contract negotiation.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven corporate environment.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and contract interpretation skills.
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to close high-value commercial agreements with minimal supervision.
