Job Description

The Julius Berger Workshop Engineer Development Programme 2026 is designed to strengthen local engineering capacity and develop professionals who can progress into future Workshop Supervisor and Workshop Manager positions.

The Workshop Engineer will support the Workshop Supervisor with technical, maintenance and quality-related activities involving equipment repair and servicing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Workshop Supervisor with technical and quality aspects of repair, servicing and maintenance activities.
  • Review work orders and determine suitable repair methods, tools and materials.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting, diagnostics and alternative repair solutions.
  • Support inspections of completed maintenance and repair work to ensure quality, functionality and safety standards are met.
  • Ensure test runs and equipment functionality checks are carried out safely by authorized and licensed personnel.
  • Accurately record inspection results, measurements and quality findings in designated equipment records.
  • Report recurring failures, deviations and non-conformities to relevant supervisors and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation of Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM).
  • Monitor technical performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to mechanics, electricians and technicians.
  • Promote compliance with workshop standards, safety procedures and quality requirements.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with PED safety guidelines.
  • Support the Workshop Supervisor in maintaining discipline, organization and proper use of workshop tools and materials.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in maintenance, repairs, fleet management or engineering support within PED.
  • A written recommendation from the candidate’s current Supervisor or Manager confirming:
    • Good conduct and discipline.
    • Technical suitability.
    • Readiness for professional development.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical or hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, diagrams and workshop documentation.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of responsibility, integrity and safety awareness.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and ability to provide technical guidance to other workshop personnel.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced workshop environment.
