Job Description

McKinsey & Company is seeking an Associate Intern to join its Lagos office for an 8–10-week internship.

The Associate Intern will work as part of a client service team, contributing to projects that address complex business and organisational challenges. The role involves conducting research, analysing data, interviewing stakeholders, developing insights, brainstorming solutions, and creating actionable recommendations.

Interns will work closely with clients and McKinsey colleagues while gaining exposure to consulting, strategy development, problem-solving, and business transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to client service teams and assigned project workstreams.
  • Conduct research and analyse data to identify key insights.
  • Participate in interviews and discussions with clients and stakeholders.
  • Help identify underlying business and strategic challenges.
  • Develop practical solutions and actionable recommendations.
  • Support the creation of strategies and transformation plans.
  • Prepare professional work products, including PowerPoint presentations, Excel models, articles, and written deliverables.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to implement solutions.
  • Contribute ideas during brainstorming and problem-solving sessions.
  • Help clients develop capabilities and tools for sustained improvement.
  • Manage assigned tasks independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Typically enrolled in an advanced graduate degree programme, such as an MBA or PhD. Requirements may vary by country or practice.
  • Excellent organisational and task-management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and complete assignments independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and relevant local office languages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to make rational, data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in creating professional outputs such as:
    • PowerPoint presentations.
    • Excel models.
    • Articles.
    • Written reports and other deliverables.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex and largely autonomous environment.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings or work outside traditional business hours when required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in different environments, including challenging or less accessible locations.
